IqraQuran — Privacy Policy
IqraQuran has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. We do not sell or share your personal data. Everything the app remembers — your settings, your position, your practice record and voice profile — is stored only on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall the app. The only thing that reaches us is feedback you choose to send (see below).
Location
The app uses your phone’s location (GPS) to work out the Sun and Moon at your place: the clock, prayer times, the Qibla direction and the Hijri month. This is calculated on the phone and your position is not sent to us.
If GPS is off or refused, the app can estimate a city-level position from your internet connection by asking one of these services: ipwho.is, get.geojs.io or ipapi.co. Like any website, those services see your IP address when asked.
Microphone (Practice)
When you tap to read a verse aloud, the app uses Android’s own speech-recognition service (on most phones, Google’s) to turn your recitation into words, which the app then compares with the verse. Android may send the audio to that service for recognition, under the service provider’s own privacy policy. IqraQuran does not record, store or upload your voice. If you download the optional offline recogniser, recognition happens entirely on your phone. The microphone is used only while the red microphone is showing.
Camera (Moon finder)
The camera is used only while the Moon finder is open, to show the sky and find the Moon. Photos are taken only when you ask (or when you turn on automatic capture) and are saved to your own photo gallery. Nothing is uploaded.
Feedback on a verse
Each verse has a feedback button. If you use it, the app sends us what you write, together with the verse reference, the kind of feedback you picked, the translation and word meanings shown on your screen for that verse, the source and languages you chose in the app, and the time you wrote it. An email address is sent only if you type one in, and is used only to reply to you. No name, device identifier or location is sent.
Feedback is sent over HTTPS to our website, iqraquran.ai, which is hosted by Cloudflare. It emails the feedback to our feedback inbox and keeps a copy in our private Cloudflare storage so it is not lost. We use it only to correct and improve the app’s translations and recitations, keep it for as long as that review needs, and never sell or share it. If you are offline, it waits on your phone and is sent the next time the app starts. To have your feedback deleted, email us at the address below with the verse and roughly when you sent it.
To limit how many reports one connection can send, our server counts reports per IP address over one minute. The address is used only for that count and is not stored with your feedback. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver and protect the site, under its own privacy policy.
Notifications and alarms
Adhan and reminder alerts are scheduled on the phone itself. The app asks for permission to post notifications, to set exact alarms, and (only when you use “Test alert”) to be exempt from battery optimisation, so that alerts arrive on time.
Internet connections
The Qur’ān text, translations and word meanings are built into the app. Apart from feedback you send, the app downloads content, not your data. When these servers are contacted they see your IP address and the file requested, as with any website:
| Server | What for |
|---|---|
| iqraquran.ai (hosted by Cloudflare) | The app’s settings file, and feedback you choose to send |
| audio.iqraquran.ai (hosted by Cloudflare) | Recitation audio of al-Ḥuṣarī and al-ʿAfāsī |
| everyayah.com | Recitation audio, only if audio.iqraquran.ai cannot provide a verse |
| audio.qurancdn.com | The recitation of a single word when you tap it to hear it, if it is not already on your phone |
| api.quran.com, verses.quran.com | Only if you choose Quran.com as the source, or a reciter other than al-Ḥuṣarī: its text, translations and recitation audio |
| alphacephei.com | The optional offline speech recogniser, only if you choose to download it |
| ipwho.is, get.geojs.io, ipapi.co | A rough position, only when GPS is not available |
All connections use encrypted HTTPS.
Data stored on your phone
Your settings, last known position, practice record and voice profile are kept in the app’s private storage. The “Back up” button writes a copy to a file on your phone that only you control. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information apart from feedback a user chooses to send.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
